Blue Lagoon in Iceland!

I'm Ben. This is my blog.

I am a software developer, an avid traveller, crappy photographer, and am always interested in a good story. I've been to four continents and twenty countries thus far. I maintain a day job as a web developer and try to min-max my paid time off to go to as many places as I can. I am kind of lucky in that I can typically take a day or two a week to work from home (or on a trip) and that I get three weeks of PTO a year.

A large part of undertaking this blog is to share travel experiences, answer some of the questions friends have had, and to get some experience with a new-to-me JavaScript framework, Astro. I'd like to record adventures so I can revisit them later. I hope to do justice to what it is like loving travel, having a day job, and trying to balance the two.

More than anything, I wanted a place to document my travel and record something to look back upon. So, there is going to be plenty of dumb stories about my trips. There will also be some advice to share with others. I hope its useful. If not, I hope its at least somewhat entertaining. There will also be a bunch of pictures I have taken, all of which are parked on a gallery site I keep for myself but I am likely to showcase my favorites here.

Finally, there is not likely to be any glamorous pictures of me in some exotic location perfectly posed and smiling. I'm not really a big fan of most travel blogs and the selling of things as the perfect adventure. Instead, there will probably be some selfies and maybe an odd picture of a homie that sneaks in. There may be some pictures I shoot on a fancy camera but it'll largely be snaps from my phone.

This whole site is just about the places I go, the things I see, and the stories I bring back with me. It's a travel blog, but it's the type of travel blog that I want to read. It's summaries of trips, advice, and piss-poor writing. Never the less, I hope you enjoy it around here.

PS, the gallery site for all the pictures I've taken is on Dry Llama. Feel free to check it out too.
